Hodges University News

The Academic Committee of Hodges University has named Vicenta Hernandez the student of the month for December. Vicenta is studying for an Associate of Science in Accounting degree. She looks to graduate next summer.

Vicenta moved to the US from her native Guatemala six years ago. Education has been top priority in her life. “When I came to the US, I made a decision to study English first and started studying two years ago in the ESL program,” she said. “My family and my ESL professor motivated me to continue on and get a degree.”

In her spare time, Vicenta enjoys dancing, horseback riding and volunteering as an HU Ambassador. “Dancing has been my favorite hobby since I was a child,” she explains. “One of my dreams is to become a professional dancer someday and motivate others to get into dancing.”

Her favorite class so far during her time at Hodges has been accounting with Profesor Anne Marchetti. “I love this class because I enjoy working with numbers,” said Vicenta.

As the student of the month, Vicenta will receive a formal letter with the nomination comments for her portfolio and files, a certificate and a $100 tuition credit.
