Staying Safe and Knowing Your Rights to Prevent Identity Theft
understanding how consumer reporting agencies work to knowing your rights when
faced with financial liability as a result of identity theft, Hodges
University’s Identity Fraud Institute will host two workshops in August that
Southwest Florida residents are encouraged to attend.
by Carrie Kerskie, director of the Identity Fraud Institute, both workshops
will be held on Hodges’ Naples campus, which is located at 2647 Professional
Way, Naples, FL 34119.
to Know You” workshop will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
on August 8, 2017. During the workshop, participants will learn about consumer
reporting agencies and how consumers, by law, are permitted to know what
information is listed on personal consumer reports. In addition, Kerskie will
explain how to request a copy of a consumer report.
Your Rights” workshop will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
on August 22, 2017. Oftentimes, victims of identity theft are faced with
numerous pages of legal documentation when trying to determine their rights. To
be protected, the fraud must be reported within the required amount of time;
otherwise, the liability becomes that of the victim. In this workshop, Kerskie
will explain victims’ rights, so there is a better chance of minimizing or
eliminating financial liability from identity theft or fraud.
cost to attend each workshop is $25 per person. Advanced registration is
required. To register, visit https://hu.formstack.com/forms/ifi_wkshop.
