Second Annual Mah-Jongg Charity Tournament

Hodges University News

Mah-Jongg players in Lee and Collier counties are invited to attend a special event benefiting Hodges University’s Thelma Hodges Friends of the University Scholarship Fund.

From 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017, Hodges University will host the 2nd Annual Mah-Jongg Charity Tournament. Originating in China, individuals play in groups of four. Players receive a scorecard with various “hands” for which he/she must match using his/her tiles, which is referred to as a Mah-Jongg. The player who correctly creates a Mah-Jongg wins the game.

This year, players will arrive at 8:00 a.m. to enjoy a continental breakfast sponsored by Comfort Keepers before promptly beginning play at 9:00 a.m. At noon, participants will enjoy traditional Asian cuisine from Araya. In addition, players will have the opportunity to participate in a 50/50 raffle drawing.

As chairperson, Thelma Hodges believes this event is an opportunity to help students further their education. “Hodges University is helping adult students reach their educational goals, and we can raise money for scholarships with a day of fun,” she said.

The Thelma Hodges Friends of the University Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to undergraduate students who are pursuing a degree from Hodges University. The scholarship is granted to students who demonstrate critical financial need.

The cost is $50 per person and the deadline to register is December 16, 2016. Individuals may register online at https://hu.formstack.com/forms/mahjongg_charity_tournament. Players must bring their own Mah-Jongg sets.
