Monica Lujan O’Brien named Student of the Month for October 2014
The Academic Committee of Hodges University has named Monica Lujan O’Brien the student of the month for October. Monica’s planned major is Digital Media and Communication and a minor in Psychology. She hopes to graduate in 2016.
Born and raised in Northern California, Monica moved to Florida three years ago, settling in Miami Beach for a year before moving to Southwest Florida. Besides her studies, she is a work study in Student Development on the Fort Myers campus. She is also a professional makeup artist and skin care expert.
At home you’ll find Monica spending time with her family: three cats, one dog and Kismet her fish. Monica volunteers her time with a host of civic activities, as an animal rights advocate, civil rights activist and an environmentalist. She currently serves as chair of the HU Ambassadors Club, is a member of the Psychology Club, the Legal Club and is hoping to start a Communications Club.
“So far my favorite class at Hodges has been Professional Communication because it, along with Professor Fortin, inspired me to change my entire course of study,” she says. “It has changed my career path into something for which I feel I am best suited and will find extremely rewarding in the future."
As the student of the month, Monica will receive a formal letter with the nomination comments for her portfolio and files, a certificate and a $100 tuition credit.
