Hodges University is proud to announce that Mayela Rosales, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Media Vista Group, will deliver its 2017 commencement address Sunday, June 11. This year’s commencement will be held at Germain Arena in Estero at 4:00 p.m.

“As both an entrepreneur and a citizen, Mayela Rosales understands commitment to a cause. Her success in the world of media, along with her advocacy for diversity in Southwest Florida, makes her a role model without parallel for our students. We are honored she will be sharing her perspectives with us,” said Dr. Donald Wortham, president of Hodges University.

Media Vista Group, LLC, the company she cofounded with Orlando Rosales, owns Univision affiliates in Southwest Florida, Minneapolis and Kansas City. In addition, the Rosales publish D’Latinos, a monthly Spanish language magazine, as well as its companion website, www.dlatinos.com. Through D’Latinos, she has for the past seven years co-sponsored Southwest Florida’s Face Awards, which recognize area businesses and individuals who reflect diversity as a value. She serves as a board member for the American Heart Association, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and Youth Haven. She is also an advisory board member for the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.

Serving as faculty speaker will be Dr. Mary Nuosce, dean of the Nichols School of Professional Studies at Hodges University. Earning her doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision from the University of Akron in 2007, she specializes in psychotherapy and leadership. Prior to joining Hodges in 2009, she managed administrative and clinical operations at a residential substance abuse treatment program in Naples, and she is a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Florida.

This year’s graduates will also hear from student speaker Paul Cummins, who is a captain with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. He is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies and plans to enroll in a master’s program at Hodges.

Selected by Hodges’ Graduation Committee, the student speaker must be receiving a baccalaureate degree, possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher and be recommended by his/her specified school.

This year, Hodges plans to confer an estimated 480 degrees. For more information, visit www.hodges.edu/graduation or call (800) 466-8017 or (800) 466-0019.
