Increasing Awareness of Identity Theft for Individuals and Professionals in Southwest Florida

Individuals and professionals in Southwest Florida are invited to attend workshops on topics ranging from assisting victims of identity theft to recognizing scams hosted by Hodges University’s Identity Fraud Institute in February.

The “Identity Theft Restoration for Individuals and Professionals” two-day workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. February 2 and 3. Participants can expect to learn about the relationship between the types of identity theft and the methods used by identity thieves, as well as the process to restore an identity and methods to reduce the risk of future incidents. In addition, participants will receive the skills necessary to assist victims in this emerging field.

In addition, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on February 23 and 24, Certified Financial Planners and financial professionals are invited to attend “Identity Theft Restoration for Financial Professionals.” Approved by CFP Board for six continuing education (CE) credit hours, Hodges is a CFP Board-Registered CE sponsor. CenturyLink is serving as the sponsor for both Identity Theft Restoration workshops.

Advanced registration is required for both of the two-day workshops. The cost to attend is $675 per person or $540 for nonprofit and government employees. The workshops will be held in the Gaynor Building on Hodges University’s Naples campus.

The “How to Identify a Scam” workshop will take place from 3:00-4:00 p.m. February 8 and 15. Carrie Kerskie, director of Hodges’ Identity Fraud Institute, will explain to participants how to recognize the common warning signs of a scam. In addition, participants will learn to think like a scammer. The cost to attend is $25. The one-hour workshop will be held February 8 on Hodges’ Naples campus and February 15 on Hodges’ Fort Myers campus.
