The School of Allied Health at Hodges University, in conjunction with the Lee and Collier County School District’s Medical Academies Advisory Boards, will host the annual Healthcare Careers Conference on Tuesday, April 29, for Collier County students, and Wednesday, April 30, for Lee County students. Both events are specially designed for high school students in the local Medical Academies giving them an up-close look at various healthcare careers.  The workshop will be held at the respective Hodges campus, beginning at 8:00am.

Dental, emergency medical services, first responders, medical assisting, medical laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and veterinary careers will all be included in the program.  Also included will be occupational, physical, respiratory, and speech therapy, as well as medical sales, nursing, physicians and physician assistants.  Students also will be able to compete in a poster contest where students will show healthcare careers and challenges.

Healthcare careers continue to be some of the fastest growing industries in the area and around the country. Students attending the conference will get an inside look at some of the most popular and in-demand career choices in the nation during this special career day. Students will hear, see, and participate with experienced health practitioners in a wide variety of fields to have hands-on experiences and face-to-face conversations.

According to Dr. Carlene Harrison, Dean of the School of Allied Health at Hodges University, the students have the opportunity to focus on careers that interest them.  “The Medical Academy students have been given a list of the workshops and are allowed to select which sessions they would like to attend,” she said.
