Hodges receives report from accrediting body

Hodges University News

Following an on-site visit from a team of educators representing the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Hodges University President Dr. Terry P. McMahan reported the results from the accrediting body.

In an email sent to the entire staff of the University, McMahan commented, “two years ago at a retreat for all employees in which we were preparing for reaffirmation of accreditation, I challenged our entire staff with a goal of having ‘zero recommendations’ at the end of the visit. Today, we met with the visiting accreditation team in an exit interview and I am very proud to report that the challenge was met, and that the university had achieved the goal.”

A recommendation refers to the on-site committee’s determination of whether an institution is out compliance with a standard or core requirement. According to McMahan, Hodges University did not receive any recommendations.

“This is an historic moment for our institution and one achieved through a great team effort,” he said.  “I would like to commend Dr. Jeanette Brock, Dr. Diane Ball and Professor Minnette Northcutt for their exemplary leadership roles in this entire process. Accreditation is all about quality. This is a milestone accomplishment and the true beneficiaries are our students.”

The visiting committee report will be reviewed by the Committee on Compliance and Reports who recommends action on reaffirmation to the Executive Council of the Commission. The Executive Council in turn recommends action to the Commission on Colleges, making the final decision which is expected in December.

Accreditation is intended to assure constituents and the public of the quality and integrity of higher education institutions and programs, and to help those institutions and programs improve. These outcomes are achieved through rigorous internal and external review processes during which the institution is evaluated against a common set of standards. Hodges University was first accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in 1996
