Hodges names Student of the Month for August 2012
The Academic Committee of Hodges University has named Tammy Rose the student of the month for August. The Academic Committee consists of the program chairs and other elected faculty, chaired by the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Jeanette Brock. During a recent “Intro to Business” class, Rose was surprised by Hodges University namesake Earl Hodges with a certificate naming her Student of the Month. Tammy was nominated for recognition by Professor Cindy Gomez and Molly Grubbs, Career Development Coordinator.
“Tammy’s initiative and dedication is evident in all that she does here at Hodges University,” said Professor Gomez. “As a mother and grandmother, she appreciates the sacrifice that it takes to do well in school. While balancing work and family, she continues to maintain excellent grades. She is a model Hodges University student and worthy of honor.”
"She stands out as a natural leader among HU Ambassadors and also serves as the President of the School of Technology Society,” said Ms. Grubbs. “Tammy shows initiative and is not afraid to roll her up sleeves to do a little volunteering. She has a positive demeanor and serves as a role model to her peers. What impresses the most about Tammy is her organizational skills and use of time management to be a great student, leader and mom.”
Rose has been working with people in nursing homes and patients receiving hospice care in Estero and Bonita Springs by showing how they can see their children and grandchildren who live out of town by using technologies such as Skype. She has also organized a fundraising effort for Autism Speaks, and is working to raise funds to raise money to tutor homeless students. “It is my honor to do what I can for the community,” she said. “If I could figure out how to make more hours in a day, I would do more.”
