Hodges University to hold winter 2014 ESL graduation ceremonies
Hodges University will hold its winter 2014 English as a Second Language (ESL) graduation ceremonies on April 24 for its Fort Myers students, and on April 25 for Naples campus students. Both events begin at 10am. Delivering the keynote address to the Fort Myers class will be Dr. Elsa Rogers, Dean of the School of Liberal Studies at Hodges University. Guest speaker at the Naples ceremony will be Gail Williams, Chief Diversity Officer for Hodges.
Dr. Rogers has been with Hodges since 1997. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad, her Master’s from the University of Memphis, and her doctorate from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Ms. Williams has been with Hodges since 2000. A Hodges alumnae, she earned her Associate, Bachelor’s and Master‘s degrees all at Hodges University.
According to Dr. Marcia Turner, Dean of Students at Hodges, the ESL graduation is an emotional event. “When you know how far they have come in such a short time, it’s quite inspirational,” said Turner. “They work so hard and are extremely dedicated, using the program to achieve a variety of personal goals. I am so proud of each and every one of them.”
Students currently enrolled in the program hail from over 30 different countries, and often use the ESL program to matriculate into other classes at Hodges. For this term, over 400 students are registered in the intensive program.
The Hodges University Fort Myers campus is located at 4501 Colonial Boulevard and the Naples campus is at 2655 Northbrooke Drive. To learn more about Hodges University’s ESL program, phone (239) 482-0019 in Ft. Myers, or (239) 513-1122 in Naples.
