Hodges University to Offer Certificate Programs in Heartsaver® CPR AED and Heartcode® BLS

Hodges University News

In an effort to assist individuals who are interested in earning a CPR AED or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Hodges University is offering certificate programs in Heartsaver® CPR AED and Heartcode® BLS.

As part of Hodges’ School of Health Sciences, the certification programs are offered in a blended format, allowing individuals to take the Heartsaver® CPR AED or Heartcode® BLS lessons online at their own pace before scheduling an instructor-led skills practice and testing session at Hodges.

Paramedic Jeff Ziomek, emergency medical service program chair at Hodges, will serve as the instructor for the practice and test sessions. “Be a difference maker and learn CPR. Oftentimes, survival of a family member or friend depends on knowing when and what to do,” he explained.

In the Heartsaver® CPR AED course, students will learn how to administer CPR to an adult or child, in addition to using an automated external defibrillator (AED). Students will also learn how to recognize when someone is in need of CPR and how this type of lifesaving technique can increase the chance of survival.

For health care professionals who need appropriate CPR and basic lifesaving skills, the Heartcode® BLS certification is also available in a blended format. Similar to the Heartsaver® CPR AED course, students who enroll in the Heartcode® BLS course will participate in a variety of interactive activities, including eSimulations. In addition, students may select in-facility or pre-hospital tracks depending upon their needs.

Upon completion of the Heartsaver® CPR AED or Heartcode® BLS online exams, students will schedule a testing time at Hodges’ Fort Myers or Naples campus. During the instructor-led session, students will be tested using hands-on skills practice that relates to the appropriate online course. Upon successful completion of the skills practice and testing session, students will receive a Heartsaver® CPR AED or Heartcode® BLS card valid for two years.
