Hodges University Hosting Stepping Out For Scholarships Event

Hodges University News

On Saturday, February 13, 2016, Hodges University will host its annual “Stepping Out for Scholarships” event benefiting the Hodges University Women in Higher Education Scholarship Fund. The event will be held from 6:00 -10:00 p.m. at the Wyndemere Golf and Country Club in Naples.

Event chair Sandra Lee Buxton and honorary chair Lavern Gaynor are planning an elegant evening honoring the accomplishments and contributions of women. The presenting sponsor for this year’s event is CenturyLink.

The goal of the event is to focus on and recognize the challenges that more than 1,200 adult women university students face every day striving to earn a college degree. Their greatest obstacle is not the lack of hard work, dedication or desire. It is adequate scholarship support. All proceeds from the event are dedicated to the financial support for women students at Hodges.

“This is an elegant affair that celebrates and benefits the 64 percent of the student body attending Hodges University who are women,” said Phil Memoli, Hodges’ vice president of university advancement. “Providing financial assistance to these students as they strive to earn their college degrees ultimately benefits all of us in Southwest Florida.”

The cocktail reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. with local vocalist Molly Spiroff entertaining guests. The program will begin at 6:45 p.m. with guests enjoying an elegant dinner, as well as an opportunity to participate in the "Dessert Dash," which encourages attendees to bid, as a table, on their favorite dessert before sending one individual from the table to quickly grab the dessert. A live auction will also take place with Naples mayor John Sorey serving as the auctioneer for the evening.

The evening will include a special presentation by Dr. David Borofsky, president of Hodges University, recognizing the contributions of Hodges benefactor Lavern Gaynor, as well as testimonials from Hodges supporters and female scholarship recipients.

"This event is a celebration of the accomplishments and amazing contributions of women in business, the arts and philanthropy," said Borofsky.

Additional sponsors for this year’s event include Stock Development, Aimee and Roger Bireley, Norton|Norris, Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee, Pushing the Envelope and Bond, Schoeneck & King.

Tickets for the event are $150 per person. For more information on ticket reservations or the event, call April May at (239) 598-6153 or email amay@hodges.edu.
