Hodges University Celebrates Veterans Day with Special Events
Hodges University is hosting a special three-part presentation this Veterans Day, Nov. 11, to honor veterans. The events are free and open to the public, taking place in the White Community Room in the Stock Building on the Naples campus – 2647 Professional Way, Naples FL, 34119.
Part I: Veterans Day Ceremony
The first event is a Veterans Day ceremony from 11-11:30 a.m., featuring guest speaker Dr. David (Ted) Childress, a graduate of The Citadel who was commissioned an infantry officer in the United States Army, and a special presentation of the flag to General Mike Coyne (38 years of service in the United State Marine Corps) and Colonel Charles Pear (33 years of service in the United States Air Force).
Part II: Collier County Honor Flight
From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Dr. Debi Lux will be presenting Collier County Honor Flight, an organization whose mission is to transport local veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to honoring their service and sacrifices.
Part III: World War II – The American Homefront
From 1:45 to 3 p.m., Dr. Ted Childress will close with a discussion of the Second World War, specifically focusing on the tolls it took on the American people – how they found themselves emerging from the Great Depression, only to yet again be forced to face sacrifices to ensure victory over fascism in Europe and militarism in Asia.
For those who wish to view the Veterans Day ceremony, but cannot be at the Naples campus, the Fort Myers campus will be broadcasting live at its new Veterans Services Center in Building U, Room 175 – 4501 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33966. Hodges University recently introduced the space for veterans, featuring a comfortable lounge atmosphere with computers for student use, information on veteran-friendly organizations, and display cases showcasing student and faculty military memorabilia.
Within the last week, Hodges University has been designated a 2016 Military Friendly® School by Victory Media and has been listed as one of Military Times top 175 schools on the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2016. Both recognitions are nationwide honors that have been carefully selected after thorough assessments.
