Hodges University Announces Retirement of Phil Memoli

Hodges University News

As Hodges University’s vice president of advancement, Phil Memoli has served as an integral part of the Hodges and Southwest Florida communities. His ability to establish connections with influential community members, as well as his commitment to raising awareness of the university and its mission are just a few notable attributes that will be missed when he retires on December 31, 2016.

Earning his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, Memoli spent 25 years working with his father and brother in the family’s real estate development company before accepting the position of president and chief executive officer of the Del Tura Group in North Fort Myers.

Spending 30 years in the real estate industry, he took his career in another direction and served as director of marketing for WirelessOne Network. He was promoted to marketing director for the state of Florida when AT&T purchased the company. However, Memoli was not finished expanding his career. Meeting former Hodges president Terry McMahan, Memoli discovered Hodges University and the nonprofit world.

Joining Hodges, which was formerly known as International College, in 2003 as its director of development, he worked to build community awareness of the university, especially in Lee County. In 2011, he was promoted to vice president of university advancement focusing on fundraising, donor and public relations, and serving as an ambassador for the institution.

“I feel I have played an important role in cultivating support and encouragement from our philanthropic community to help fund scholarships and meet the future needs of Hodges University,” he said. Establishing a close connection with many of the university’s benefactors is one aspect of Memoli’s legacy of which he is most proud, saying, “Hodges is a large part of my life, and I am honored to have gained the trust and confidence working with some of the most wonderful and generous people on the planet. These relationships will last a lifetime.”

In addition to his work to further the mission and vision of Hodges, Memoli remains an advocate for veterans, helping to assist student veterans in receiving the support and services needed to earn their degree. “I am so pleased to be a part of a vet-friendly institution and to work with our Dr. Peter Thomas Veterans Services Center,” he said.

“Over the past 13 years, Phil Memoli has served Hodges University with a very rare combination of panache, good humor and commitment to mission,” said Dr. Donald Wortham, Hodges University president. “Phil’s ability to build friendships for the institution has moved Hodges forward, and while we are happy for him as he transitions into a well-deserved retirement, he will be greatly missed."
