Hodges University Announces Agreement with Montessori Academy of Naples

Hodges University News

Hodges University today announced an agreement with Montessori Academy of Naples (MAN) that will result in the Montessori school—which offers quality education in a nurturing environment for students age 8 weeks to 15 years—co-locating with Hodges on its Naples campus at 2655 Northbrooke Drive.

“This agreement writes a new chapter in the evolving relationship between Hodges University and Montessori Academy of Naples. Both institutions are mission-driven, local, private nonprofits focused on transformational education,” said Dr. Donald Wortham, president of Hodges University. “For several years, we have had an informal agreement that allowed Montessori Academy to use our university grounds for their students’ outdoor activities. Now, we are very pleased to extend and formalize this relationship in a way that allows Montessori Academy to meet its expanding facility needs.”

Kimberly Hunt, Montessori Academy of Naples’ Head of School, is equally optimistic about the opportunity this agreement presents for both the school and the university.   “This is a natural extension of the relationship that MAN and Hodges have been forming over the last several years.  For our part, we have been searching for additional space to accommodate the increased interest in our programming.  To find such a viable, mutually beneficial solution in our own backyard, was an unexpected and welcome opportunity.”

A multi-year lease will provide Montessori Academy with 16,640 square feet of space on the first floor of the university’s Gaynor Building, which fronts the green space that the academy’s students have been using for play and other activities. Renovation work to the space is expected to begin immediately, with occupancy occurring midyear.

The current location of the academy is in close proximity to the Hodges’ campus near the Immokalee Road and I-75 interchange.

“By bringing Montessori Academy of Naples onto our campus, we have an opportunity to partner on a future ‘lab school’ learning environment for early childhood and primary-school teacher preparation. Additionally, the arrangement provides convenient pre- and primary-school options for the children of our faculty and staff,” said Wortham. “Like Hodges University, Montessori Academy of Naples provides an excellent choice for students and families who seek transformational education.”

About Montessori Academy of Naples
Montessori Academy of Naples (MAN) is a private, not for profit educational institution that was founded in 2007 by a group of local Montessori teachers, parents, and at-large community members.  The school serves students from infancy into adolescence and, from its inception, has been dedicated to creating an educational experience of high academic standard based on the comprehensive Montessori philosophy, practices, and curriculum.  Its mission is to guide each child in a thoughtfully prepared environment to become an independent thinker, resourceful problem solver, and a positive contributing member in our society by focusing on the development of the whole child.  MAN’s success is directly attributable to its commitment to Montessori, the hard-work and dedication of its staff, administrators, and Board of Directors, and the support of its families.
