A licensed mental health counselor, a board certified expert and diplomat in traumatic stress, and a credentialed expert in domestic violence and forensic counseling by the American Academy of Forensic Counselors, Dr. Laura Streyffeler joined Hodges University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in 2016.

With more than 20 years of counseling experience, she specializes in empowerment-based, solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapies. She has a private practice in Fort Myers, Fla., where she provides individual, couples and family psychotherapy.

Her areas of expertise include domestic violence, sexual abuse, rape, forensic psychology and other trauma related issues, as well as depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder for both children and adults, anger management, grief and loss, mid-life changes and related issues, divorce and changing families, trauma and relationship issues.

For more than 10 years, Streyffeler served as the clinical director of the Abuse Counseling and Treatment, which is an organization that provides residential and non-residential services for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Throughout the years, she has been involved in many professional organizations. Currently, she is on the board of directors of the Family Resources Center. She is also a member of the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Lee County Homeless Coalition, Family Resource Center, Southwest Florida Trauma Recovery Network, Southwest Florida Human Trafficking Task Force and the Lee County Association of Family Law Professionals.
