Dr. James Hodge earned his bachelor’s degree in education and music from the University of Akron in 1972. While in college, he served as the band director, which led him to become a member of the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. after college. Playing under the direction of Col. Gabriel, he was assigned to the Ceremonial Band, performing for White House ceremonies during the Nixon and Ford administration from 1972-1976. From 1976-1980, Hodge served as a public school teacher in Ohio while pursuing a law degree at the University of Akron, which led him to become a full-time instructor and program chair of Paralegal Studies at International College [now known as Hodges University] in 1991.

As a lawyer, his focus was litigation in criminal defense and family law. Throughout his career, he has tried hundreds of criminal and civil cases, and after 22 years, in 2013, he resigned from his position as the program chair of Paralegal Studies and Legal Studies to concentrate on teaching and research.

Outside of the classroom, he spends his time running, working out and playing golf.
