About This Event

Presenter: Valentina Dimitri

The Ukrainian National Women's League of America (UNWLA) Naples Branch 136 will be presenting "Women of Maidan," a moving documentary by Filmmaker Olha Onyshko, who gives us an insider’s view of how ordinary Ukrainian women banned together in support of their male counterparts during the 2013‐2014 Revolution of Dignity. Against the backdrop of a cold, harsh winter, a peaceful protest was taking place in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev, against the corrupt government leaders serving Vladimir Putin's agenda to usurp Ukrainian independence. Violence ensued when a special, fully armed police force serving the corrupt government was brought in to stop the protesters. A violent struggle continued for more than a year, killing and injuring hundreds of innocent Ukrainians. This story focuses on the women whose life-supporting courage and sacrifice gave hope to their men and kept their vision alive. “Women of Maidan” recently made its world premiere at the 17th annual Woodstock Film Festival in Woodstock, New York.
