Professor Martin Smith joined Hodges University’s School of Allied Health in May of 2011. He currently teaches coding and reimbursement courses in the Health Information Management Program (HIM). Professor Smith has been teaching core courses in HIM programs for over 10 years, in both campus and online settings. Prior to teaching, Martin was a combat medic and LPN in the US Army. He also held positions as medical coder at various hospitals in Tampa, including Shriners Hospital for Children.
Professor Smith received a master’s degree in Health Information Management from The College of St Scholastica in 2012 and another master’s degree in Education from American Intercontinental University in 2006. In 2005, he received his bachelor’s degree in Digital Design from American Intercontinental University. Martin’s associate degree is Health Information Management from St. Petersburg College, 2003. His credentials include RHIA, CCA, and FHIMA Chief Delegate 2013.
Professor Martin Smith is married with four children and two grandchildren. He enjoys supporting his football team from London, Crystal Palace and restoring old automobiles.
