Physical Therapist Assistant

Special recognition:
August 2013 Student of the Month

Age:
26

Bio:
I grew up in New Jersey, the oldest of three children with two younger brothers. My family moved to Fort Myers after I graduated high school. I attended Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) from 2005-2009, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Human Performance. After college, I worked for several years at Lee Memorial Hospital as a rehab technician in acute care. I decided to continue with my education and pursue my Associates in Science in Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA). I love the field of physical therapy and am currently in my first clinical rotation at an outpatient clinic, which I am enjoying very much.

Hobbies/extracurricular interests:

I enjoy working out and outdoor activities like kayaking, boating, and going to the beach. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family, reading, and being involved with my church. Last semester, my classmates and I helped organize a “Hodges PTA” team for the Golden Gate Relay for Life. Our team raised over $1,800 for the American Cancer Society. That was one of the most rewarding, though exhausting, experiences I’ve ever had.

Why did you choose Hodges University?
I chose Hodges because I liked the idea of getting in on a new, up-and-coming PTA program. I have enjoyed being part of the inaugural PTA class and being able to provide my input for improving the program.

What do you like best about Hodges University?
I found that the small class sizes and the real-world knowledge of my professors has really make Hodges stand out from other institutions I've attended. From my application process through the past three semesters I have spent pursuing my degree, I have never felt like a "number" but always like a valued member of the Hodges community.

What is your favorite class at Hodges University and why?
All of my PTA core classes! Hodges is providing an awesome, interactive learning experience. It almost feels like the core classes are all one big class since there is so much carry-over from one area to another. They all come together and teach how to actually treat a patient. Overall my clinical experience has probably been my favorite “class”. There’s nothing like being out in the real world and working with real patients.

Previous college/educational experience:

I have a BS in Human Performance from FGCU.
