Cape Coral High School student Gerardo Sibaja was a scholarship honoree at the 22nd annual “Excellence in Education” awards ceremony, presented by the Cape Coral Chamber Education Committee.
Each year the Committee selects several deserving seniors to receive a scholarship. This year, five students, including Sibaja, were selected to receive a $1,000 dollar scholarship to be applied to the school of their choice. Scholarships were donated by Hodges University, Cape Coral for the Children, Cape Coral Community Foundation, the Giving Alliance of Women and the Cape Chamber Education Committee.
Sibaja, an International Baccalaureate student and whose weighted GPA is 5.12, said he was very grateful to receive the scholarship.
"It's a relief because I feel that college is now a possibility because the community is willing to help students achieve," he said.
As part of the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, the Education Committee serves as a bridge between the academic world and business community. Members of this committee volunteer their time to raise funds for scholarships and educational programs that support the development of tomorrow’s business leaders.
