Hodges University has announced the development of a new scholarship aimed at helping local women looking to Hodges University to pursue their educational goals. The “Advancing Today’s Woman: Women in Higher Education Encouragement Scholarship” will empower the goals and aspirations of financially challenged and educationally disadvantaged women by providing access to a quality education and leadership development. At a recent launch reception, guests were able to hear firsthand from two Hodges students who benefitted from much needed scholarship.
“This project was launched in conjunction with others in the community who understood that there was a greater need to provide for women who attend or will attend Hodges University” said Judy Coleman, Director of Development at Hodges University and Advancing Today’s Woman Council Member. “The council, which includes Honorary Chairs Barbara Burris, Lavern Gaynor, and Thelma Hodges, Co-Chairs Sandra Buxton and Michele McKenney, and Council Members Judith Marschke, Tom Falciglia, Tonda Soisson-Lawson and Dr. Marcia Turner, is quite passionate about providing a stepping stone to help at risk women overcome the varied challenges they face in today’s world. It is the councils hope that these women will be offered the greatest potential for inspiring meaningful changes in their lives, their families, and their communities.”
The Advancing Today’s Woman Council will be hosting several receptions and other events geared to raising awareness and support for the scholarship. For more information, or if you would like to get involved please contact Judy Coleman at (239) 598-6122.
