Fort Myers' Fabiano Named Student of the Month
Anthony Fabiano, a Fort Myers resident and senior accounting major at International College, is the college’s student of the month for September 2001.
Fabiano, 31, an employee of the Cossentino & Orlando accounting firm in Cape Coral, made the transition from a retail career into the accounting profession. He has an associate degree from Southwest Florida College and is a graduate of North Fort Myers High School. He was nominated for the award by Mary Beth Throneberry, Ph.D., International College accounting professor.
"Tony is to be commended for his initiative," said Throneberry. "He is a focused adult student who felt his potential and skills weren’t being used. He has a natural aptitude for accounting and applied those skills and education to find a new career in the field." "I like the work atmosphere and earnings potential as an accountant," said Fabiano. "Eventually, I’d like to become a CPA (certified public accountant)." Fabiano said age was a factor he considered when selecting a college to study for a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
" I feel International College is the best local college for older and non-traditional students," he said. "The whole process from admissions to the class schedule is designed to meet our needs. It’s geared and designed specifically for older students like me. I feel I got the support I needed there to go ahead and go for a bachelor’s (degree)."
