IC President Honored as Education Leader of the Year
Naples, Florida (February 28, 2006) — International College President Dr. Terry McMahan will be distinguished with an international award this April when the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) honors him with the 2006 Leadership in Education Award.
“This really is a prestigious recognition for International College,” says School of Business Dean Fred Nerone. “The IACBE is highly selective in awarding this honor. That they chose our president above hundreds of colleges and universities from around the world is a wonderful testament to Dr. McMahan’s leadership,” he adds. IACBE President Dr. John Green concurs.
“In making the determination, our committee considered not only the quality and range of International College’s academic programs, but also the degree to which the school has grown in such a relatively short time,” says Dr. Green. “It’s quite rare for a school so young to have grown so fast while providing the level of service which International College offers. For all he has accomplished, Dr. McMahan has earned more than our recognition, but also our respect.” McMahan has been President of International College for 14 years. He arrived in 1991, one year after the school opened in a vacated strip mall along Highway 41 in East Naples. McMahan successfully led his team through the challenges of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and today presides over operations at spacious, technology driven campuses which are located in Naples and Fort Myers.
In Fort Myers, International College is recognized as the first Undergraduate and Graduate level college to locate within city limits. The college also facilitates learning centers in Cape Coral and the counties of Charlotte, Hernando, Manatee and Pasco.
Comprised of a School of Business, School of Professional Studies, School of Technology and School of Allied Health, International College offers students the ability to earn associate, baccalaureate, and master level degrees in 16 professional disciplines. In the 15 years that have passed since opening, graduate levels have climbed to more than 3,000 making International’s alumni grouping among the largest in the region.
Beyond the traditional academic programs, International College also provides intensive English as a Second Language, a program which is being utilized by students that hail from a variety of countries around the world.
