Hodges University has received a $10,000 grant from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation in recognition of financial representative Jerry Nichols’ outstanding volunteer commitment, as part of the company’s 17th annual national Community Service Award program. It is the fourth time that Nichols has won the Award. Nichols, a member of the Hodges University Foundation is also the namesake of the Nichols School of Professional Studies at Hodges University, named after Jerry and his late wife Arlene in 2010. Additionally, they were named Humanitarians of the Year by the University in 2008.
The grant money will be utilized to support the mission of the University which is to offer associate, baccalaureate and graduate degrees as well as other programs which enhance the ability of students to achieve life or career objectives.
“Jerry’s passion for helping individuals who carry life responsibilities is unprecedented,” said Phil Memoli, Vice President of University Advancement at Hodges. “His volunteer leadership as an early member of our President’s Council and charter member of our Foundation Board has been instrumental in every milestone our institution has made. He consistently contributes the gifts of his time, talent and treasures, and we are honored to call him a friend of the University.”
“Jerry makes positive contributions for both clients and the Naples community,” said Northwestern Mutual Foundation president Kimberley Goode. “This effort, along with many others supported by the Northwestern Mutual field force, helps us secure future generations, and we’re excited to see Hodges University continue their essential work in Naples.”
As the former Chair of the Foundation Board, Nichols has led efforts to raise additional endowed funds which provide vital support for scholarships, research and development, and capital growth needs.
“Hodges University focuses on the adult learner and provides the opportunity for them to complete their undergraduate or earn a Master’s degree,” said Nichols. “I admire Hodges University for their commitment to returning veterans who choose to complete their educational goals. The personal attention the professors provide the students is unparalleled,” he added.
The Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Community Service Award lends additional financial support to nonprofit organizations already supported by financial representatives within their local communities. These grants recognize the outstanding volunteer contributions, work and leadership that their financial representatives have invested in these nonprofit organizations.
