Though some of the participants may not have played the golf game they had hoped for, everyone was pleased at the outcome of the fourth annual Hodges University Spring Golf Classic held recently.
More than 88 golfers gathered at the Fiddlesticks Country Club on May 10 for the tournament to benefit students at Hodges University.
The event, sponsored by First Community Bank, raised over $100,000 for scholarships. Half of the proceeds will benefit the American Military Veterans Education Fund, and the other half for the general scholarship fund.
Winning first place in the Championship Flight was the foursome of Steve Personette, Phil Personette, Tom Giles and Jim Matey with a score of 120. Placing first in the Player Flight were Ron Salvagio, Rock Pennella, Gary Hampton and Joseph Kibitlewski with a score of 130. Ron Salvagio also scored closest to the pin, and Rusty Brown registered the longest drive.
The tournament was an exciting day-long event, beginning with a gourmet lunch, play on the Long Mean and Wee Friendly courses at Fiddlesticks Country Club, followed by an elegant dinner gala and live auction which featured vacation packages from around the world.
Phil Memoli, Director of Development at Hodges credits the success to a passionate team of volunteers and supporters. “There are many people who volunteered their time, their talent and their money, all in the name of higher education,” said Memoli. “On behalf of our students and veteran students, I can’t thank them enough.”
