The Academic Committee of Hodges University has named Kristen Sommer the student of the month for August. Kristen is currently studying in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program and hopes to graduate this fall. Her eventual goal is to become a Physical Therapist Assistant in an orthopedic or sports related setting.
Kristen is originally from New Jersey and moved to Fort Myers after she graduated from high school. She attended FGCU and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Human Performance. She had been working at Lee Memorial Hospital as a rehabilitation technician when she chose Hodges University in order to continue her education.
"I love the field of physical therapy," she said. "I am currently in my first clinical rotation at an outpatient clinic, which I enjoy very much. There’s nothing like being out in the real world and working with real patients."
Last month Kristen helped organize a Hodges PTA team for the Golden Gate Relay for Life, where the team raised over $1,800 for the American Cancer Society.
As the student of the month, Kristen will receive a formal letter with the nomination comments for his portfolio and files, a certificate and a $100 tuition credit.
