Bonita Springs Resident Named International College September Student of the Month
Bonita Springs resident Tammi Genta, 34, was named International College’s student of the month for September 2002.
Genta, a dual legal studies and business administration major, is nearing the completion of her term as the first chairperson of IC Ambassadors, a new student organization whose purpose it is to promote school awareness, participate in community service and create and organize student activities.
Additionally, Genta received the Meftah Scholarship this past summer. The scholarship was created to provide financial support to female, single-parent students in pursuit of higher education. She also has been named to the dean’s list once since enrolling at International College in Fall 2001.
Jami Trochessett, career development coordinator at International College, nominated Genta. Genta was a founding member of the IC Ambassadors and was a primary force behind the success of the organization’s participation in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life – the group’s first community service endeavor, Trochessett added.
“Tammi is a dedicated member of the International College student body,” said Trochessett, also an advisor to the IC Ambassadors. “She has been a driven, willing, and reliable leader, setting a high standard for officers of this student organization.”
Genta, a single mother of an 11-year-old daughter, still cannot believe she was given the school’s monthly honor.
“I was very surprised. This truly was unexpected,” she said. “Earning a college degree will not only enable me to maintain that competitive edge, but will also enable me to explore other career opportunities by using my new skills to secure a place within the workforce.”
