John M. Crowley Hired as Director of Development
John M. Crowley, a former executive director of Cornell University and a founding Vice President of Florida Gulf Coast University, has been hired as Director of Development for International College. “John Crowley is representative of the quality individuals working at International College,” says President Dr. Terry McMahan.
“He brings a great deal of experience, professionalism, and class as a veteran fundraiser who understands this area of Florida. We’re excited to have someone of his caliber helping to advance the mission of our institution," adds Dr. McMahan. A 1972 Graduate of Gannon University, Crowley has more than 35 years professional experience in higher education, especially in the arena of advancement.
Crowley spent more than 18 years with Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, before assuming the Vice-President of Development position with State University of New York at Fredonia.
A frequent visitor to Southwest Florida since 1970, Crowley moved to Fort Myers in 1995 where he formerly served as Florida Gulf Coast University’s Vice President of Advancement.
From 1995 to 2001, Crowley successfully led all fund raising, alumni relations, public relations and communication activities at FGCU.
In 2001, he moved to St. Petersburg where he served as Eckerd College’s Vice President for Advancement. The college was reinvigorated through Crowley’s leadership in aspects of admissions, communications, fiscal affairs, and Board Management.
“This is a man who could have gone anywhere, but he chose International College because he recognizes it as one of our nation’s most distinctive institutions,” says Dr. Louis Traina, International College’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement.”
“John is committed to nurturing support for our mission because he understands that it makes a difference in the lives of working students,” adds Dr. Traina.
In assuming the new position, Crowley says his immediate goal is to assist in raising support for International College’s Fort Myers campus.
“Helping students, that’s the joy I receive in my work,” says Crowley.
“It feels very good to be part of an institution that is growing and producing graduates who are visibly assuming leadership positions within our community. This demonstrates that International College is providing the educational means necessary to change lives. I’m very proud to play a role in that process,” he adds.
