East Pointe Hospital's Stapleton named student of the month
Kip Stapleton, 36, a Fort Myers resident and accounts payable and payroll supervisor at Lehigh Acres’ East Pointe Hospital, was named International College’s student of the month for January, 2002.
Stapleton, a sophomore computer information technology major, has been named to the dean’s list three consecutive academic terms since enrolling at International College last year.
He plans to complete a bachelor’s degree in computer information technology with an emphasis in computer networking. Stapleton has completed Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) and A+ hardware and operating systems certification while studying at International College.
"Kip is an outstanding student who has successfully mastered the juggling skills necessary to balance full-time employment, family obligations and school responsibilities," said David Rice, program chair of International College’s computer information technology department. "He is also a volunteer tutor and teaching assistant who is able to adeptly explain and communicate computer concepts to other students."
Stapleton said he’d like to eventually study for a master’s degree in accounting or business administration.
"I’d like a career that combines my interests in computer networking with my background in accounting," said Stapleton.
Stapleton said he returned to college at the age of 35 after a job application was turned down for a position.
"The job required a college degree and although I had the necessary skills I didn’t meet the education requirement," said Stapleton. "That convinced me I needed to go back to school."
Stapleton said he’s been pleased with his International College education.
"I find the learning practical and well-rounded," said Stapleton. "I also like the liberal arts requirement as a supplement to my core of computer courses."
