Ft. Myers, Florida (July 17, 2007) – Anglers of every skill level will compete in The Second Annual Mangrove Madness Fishing Tournament, to be held on August 17 & 18, 2007 to benefit students at Hodges University.
Tournament winners of this catch/release formatted event will also receive automatic entry in the IGFA (International Game Fish Association) Championship Tournament later this year.
The cost per angler is $225. The proceeds from the tournament will benefit students at Hodges University, a non-profit, fully accredited University with campuses in Naples and Ft. Myers, as well as learning sites throughout the state.
University president and avid fisherman, Dr. Terry McMahan, feels that the tournament is a great way for the community to show their support of the University and its mission. “Our goal at Hodges is to provide competent professionals whose skills serve the many needs of our ever-changing area. As we continue to nurture the intellects of the next leaders of our community, events like this help us to spread the news about what Hodges is doing and how it is helping shape the future of our area,” said McMahan.
The event begins with a Captain’s Cocktail Party on August 17th, hosted by ‘Tween Waters Inn on Captiva Island. The party will feature a gourmet meal as well as items up for auction. All anglers will also receive a duffle bag stuffed with fishing shirts, hats, sponsor promotional items, and plenty more. Cameras, scorecards and rulers will be distributed at the Captain’s Party. Fishing begins at first safe light on August 18, and concludes with a pig roast and awards banquet that evening. Top prizes include vacation packages to New York, North Carolina, and the host resort ‘Tween Waters Inn, all athwarded at the end of the IGFA-sanctioned tournament.
For the first time, the tournament is working with the Lee County Visitors and Conventions Bureau, promoting the event to anglers from around the state. The event is sponsored in part by Florida Lifestyle Homes. For registration, complete rules, or for more information, visit: www.caloosacatchandrelease.com or call (239) 671-9347.
