College Launches New Degree Programs
Students of International College will have a few new choices when it comes to earning a degree beginning this January when the college launches new courses leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Psychology as well as a Master of Professional Studies Degree.
The new Applied Psychology program is described as "cutting edge" by Program Supervisor Dr. Elsa Rogers.
"We conducted a needs analysis and learned many students were interested in obtaining a degree in psychology, but our region was lacking as far as educational opportunities in this discipline. This really is a very cutting edge, pioneering program that we’re introducing to the community."
Dr. Rogers goes on to assert that graduates of the Applied Psychology program will emerge with a wide range of career options in fields that include education, mental health, social services and business.
Dr. Karen Locklear, Supervisor of the Master in Professional Studies Program, also says that new course will benefit graduates by providing new career alternatives.
"In today’s global environment, organizations need people who have the ability to see issues through multiple lenses and solve complex problems," says Dr. Locklear.
"As students experience a broad, interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, they acquire an advanced level of understanding that serves not only in professional areas of study, but also in professions relating to law, computers, psychology, education and more."
The new programs combine to offer students as many as 16 degree options at International College which is comprised by a School of Business, School of Professional Studies, School of Technology and School of Allied Health.
