Hodges University announced today the recognition of Tamika Seaton, Planning Technician for the Collier Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), as the recipient of the 2011 Founders’ Award – an honor annually conferred upon a Hodges University graduate who has provided outstanding and distinguished service to our community.
Seaton earned a bachelor’s degree in Management in 2007, and followed with her Master’s degree in Management in 2009.
“I have a great deal of respect for Hodges University as it literally changed my life,” said Seaton. “I deeply appreciate the honor which the University has conferred upon me through its Founders’ Award.”
In her role as Planning Technician for the Collier MPO, Seaton manages five MPO committees and the MPO Board, made up of elected officials and the Florida Department of Transportation as a non-voting member. Seaton ensures compliance with MPO grants requirements by meeting deadlines, and coordinates and manages the department’s public involvement program. Through her efforts, she has built strong relationships with elected officials and stakeholders, has coordinated public inquiries and requests, and manages the department’s outreach database.
Tamika also devotes much of her free time to her community through her work with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Collier County Branch. She is also staff liaison to the Collier County Black Affairs Advisory Board, works with AMI Kids, and many other nonprofit organizations in our area. Tamika is the past chair of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Celebration; she is the current chair of the Juneteenth Celebration; and is the communications, press and publicity chair of the NAACP Collier County Branch. She also partners with other organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Collier County.
Tamika’s other full-time job is that of wife and mother to Sydney, 10, and Andrew 6. She and her husband, Derrick, live in Naples.
Seaton will be honored at the upcoming Hodges University Humanitarian of the Year awards ceremony on March 29 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples. The 2011 Humanitarians of the Year are Dolph and Sharon von Arx. The event is underwritten by Robert W. Baird & Co. For more information, phone (239) 938-7826.
