Golden Gate's Brown named student of the month
Brown , 22, lives in Golden Gate with his wife, Melanie, and two children, Christopher, 4, and Kaitlyn, 1.
He has served as International College’s student council vice president and is a supervisor with Comcast overseeing installations of Comcast’s cable-powered Internet service, Comcast@home.
Brown, a 1997 graduate of Lely High School, received an associate degree in business administration from International College in May and completed course requirements for an associate degree in computer information technology in August.
He is continuing at International College pursuing bachelor’s degrees in business administration and computer information technology.
"Degrees in two disciplines leaves me a lot of career options and flexibility," said Brown, who has been named to the dean’s list for six academic terms during his career at International College. "I am looking to either continue in a supervisory or managerial role or go into the technical side of the communications business. I would even like to somehow combine my two interests."
Dean’s list students are enrolled full time with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Brown was nominated for the award by Carol Morrison, International College director of student records and registrar.
"Jason is a great ambassador for International College," said Morrison. "He is very active in encouraging his associates and co-workers at Comcast to continue their educations at International College. He is also supportive of his fellow employees once they enroll here by helping them with registration and tuition reimbursement issues. Jason’s leadership qualities are always evident."
November is the second consecutive month that a Golden Gate resident was honored with the award. Jennifer Vasquez, 28, a sophomore criminal justice major, was International College’s student of the month in October.
