In preparation for its second annual Diversity Festival in February, 2009, Hodges University today announced the recipient for the Festival’s Service Award. The Award will be presented to local television personality Lee Pitts, host of “Lee Pitts Live
,” the longest running television talk show in the Southwest region of Florida, and 5 time recipient of the NAACP Image Award.
"I am thrilled and humbled for the honor,” said Lee Pitts, host and executive producer of Lee Pitts Live. “Coming from Hodges and all the excellence the University represents makes this the greatest award my show has received in its 15 years of existence. This is further motivation for us to live up to the high standards of promoting diversity in our area," said Pitts.
Chairman of the Festival, Fabio Tagliasacchi, said Pitts was selected to receive the Award in honor of his many years of community service with his television program. “His programming and interest has expanded from what was once a predominantly minority-oriented show into a community forum where every element of the local community has participated,” said Tagliasacchi. “His show is a living testament to the diversity we all share, and we as a community have benefitted greatly from his program,” he said.
Pitts was presented the award during a taping of his program that is scheduled to air on September 13th at 9:30 am on Comcast channel 8, and on September 14th at 6:30 pm on Comcast channel 35 everywhere except Cape Coral and Golden Gate where it will air on channel 23.
The Second Annual Hodges University Diversity Festival will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the North Collier Regional Park on Livingston Road in Naples. Last year, over 1,000 participants gathered to enjoy the free, multi-cultural event that featured music, art, fashions and food from several different countries.
“Diversity is not something to be taught, it’s something to be lived,” said Tagliasacchi. “Since the next Festival will be held on Valentine’s Day, we hope that families will join us to celebrate both love for family and love for culture.”
