Fundacion Azteca America, Azteca America-Southwest Florida and the Hispanic Institute at Hodges University will host a State of Latinos discussion on the importance of the 2010 Census. The event will be held on Thursday, April 16th, from 11:30 am to 1:30pm at the Ft. Myers campus of Hodges University, 4501 Colonial Blvd.
The panel discussion will focus on increasing the attention given to Latino issues and needs by making sure every Latino household is counted. Other topics of discussion include immigration and the economy.
Keynote speaker for the event is Republican Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart of the 25th district of Florida. Other speakers include Irma Harahush, Chief 2010 National Partnerships Branch and Manuel Landivar, Assistant Regional Census Manager from Atlanta, acting as the National Census representative.
In preparation for the 2010 U.S. Census, Fundacion Azteca America and Azteca America-Southwest Florida have developed a multimedia campaign “Porque tú vales, déjate contar! (Because you’re worth it, let yourself be counted)” to encourage Latino participation in the Census process that includes bilingual literature and an integrated website campaign at www.fundacionaztecaamerica.org.
