International College congratulates its Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Development, Dr. Ron Bowman, on being honored as a “Star in the Arts” by the United Arts Council of Collier County. Dr. Bowman will receive special recognition at an awards luncheon March 21, 2007.
Dr. Bowman credits the staff and faculty at the College for the flexibility in his schedule which allows him to meet both academic and cultural demands. “I’m so grateful to International College for allowing time in my schedule to be a cultural connection to our community,” said Bowman. “There are great cultural resources in Collier County, and I think the College’s support of the arts is making a great difference in this area.”
Dr. Bowman is a classically trained pianist and baritone, and is President of the Naples Opera Society. He shows his enthusiasm for the arts in the many lectures he conducts at the Frances Pew Hayes Center for Lifelong Learning at the College. As an artist, he has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, choral societies, vocal recitals, and with Opera Naples, where he sits on their advisory board.
The Stars in the Arts awards are given annually to local residents and organizations that have made sustained, outstanding contributions to the arts. Winners are selected by a panel comprised of the Executive Committee of the United Arts Council and past winners. Nominations are made by the general public and judging is based on outstanding and consistent support of the arts in the county. The “Stars in the Arts” luncheon will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2007, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 pm at the Naples Grande Resort. For more information, phone (239) 263-8242.
