Fishing In Southwest Florida

Monday, Nov 12, 2012 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Southwest Florida is a fishing paradise. The combination of clean, warm water, mangrove forests and backwaters provides an ideal home that supports many species of fish as well as other marine animals and birds. The challenges facing fishermen (or photographers, boaters, kayakers and other explorers) include where to fish, what fish to target, what tackle to use, and how to get started. Captain Wheeler will provide an overview to help answer these and other questions about local fishing. Specifically, he will describe the fish most frequently caught, which ones are tasty table fare (with favorite recipes), the most popular methods of fishing, the tackle and bait used for each method, and resources available for information, shopping, boat rentals and guide services. The three types of fishing to be discussed are casting with lures, bait fishing, and fly fishing.

This event is free and open to the public. Call (239) 598-6143 or email mgoldenberg@hodges.edu for more information.
