Please join us as Robert W. Baird & Co. presents the International College 2007 Humanitarian of the Year award to Truly Nolen in recognition of his entrepreneurial spirit, business innovation and contributions to making a beneficial difference in the lives of others in our community.

An entrepreneur, adventurer and father, Truly Nolen epitomizes the American Dream. Throughout his 65-year career, he has maintained a sense of adventure and a youthful outlook, along with a culture of honesty, integrity and unparalleled customer service.

Truly Nolen began his miraculous journey as a boy growing up in Miami Beach. At the age of 16, he left home, and with a 13-year-old friend, navigated his 21-foot sailboat in the Intercoastal Waterway from Miami to Annapolis, Maryland. The 1,200-mile journey took nearly six weeks. Years later, he joined his father’s pest control business where he learned the importance of finding a better way and not relying upon past practices.

In 1952, an unexpected battle with polio left Truly Nolen in an iron lung fighting for his life. He eventually defeated polio and went on to establish Truly Nolen Pest Control, an international pest extermination company with a presence in 40 countries around the world. His company also ranks among the top 10 pest control firms in the United States. His innovation and humor are exhibited in the company’s distinctive advertising and over 100 classic cars emblazoned with the Truly Nolen name.

A family man, Truly Nolen has conveyed his adventurous spirit to his wife Vickie and their children, most of whom have learned to fly and share time with him sailing and scuba diving. Lured by the warm weather and water, Truly Nolen moved the family to Naples in 1992 and has since been an active member of the community. He generously supports the March of Dimes, Temple Shalom and countless other organizations.

For his support of the community, for fostering hope in those afflicted by despair, for proving that the promise of tomorrow’s future never means forsaking the past, for demonstrating the degree to which one man can make a positive difference when times most demand it, International College and Robert W. Baird & Co. are pleased to recognize Truly Nolen as the 2007 Humanitarian of the Year.
