“Purposeful Boards, Powerful Fundraising”

This one-day course will focus on how strong boards and strong chief executives make a world of difference for nonprofit governance. It will emphasize the importance of a solid relationship between board chairs and nonprofit chief executives to bring about change in your organization.

Topics covered in this day-long mini-board retreat will include:

• Trends impacting governance & fundraising in the nonprofit sector.
• Why some nonprofits confuse volunteering with governance.
• Legal obligations of nonprofit boards.
• How great boards profile before recruiting.
• Why term limits are essential for a fundraising board.
• How successful fundraising is not about asking for money.
• Periodic fundraising exercises you can do with your board.
• How to get your board to articulate your organization’s value.
• How every single willing board member can be a great fundraiser.

Presenter: Dave Sternberg, Faculty at the Lilly School of Philanthropy's Fund Raising School and a BoardSource senior governance consultant.

Registration Fee: $250 per organization (up to 3 people from same organization) + $75 per participant after the first 3 participants. A $125 scholarship per organization is available (on a first-come, first-serve basis) from the Community Foundation of Collier County. To be eligible, your organization must serve Collier County residents and you must update your profile information on the Foundation’s website at http://www.cfcollier.org/nonprofits/resource-directory-registration/.
