Accreditation
Tell me about accreditation.
Hodges University is regionally accredited with the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. This is the highest accreditation possible for colleges and universities.
Why is accreditation important?
Accreditation is a voluntary exercise and without it, colleges and universities cannot provide federal or state financial aid. There are six regional accrediting agencies in the United States and institutions accredited by these regional associations will usually accept credits in transfer from other institutions similarly accredited. In general, credits earned from nationally accredited schools will not be transferable to regionally accredited institutions.

Hodges University Name Change
Will the school colors change?
Yes. The former burgundy and gray colors have been changed to a deeper burgundy, taupe and warm gray to reflect the new name, logo and brand of Hodges University.
What is the institution’s new, official name?
Hodges University.
What should I put on my resume?
That’s up to you. A suggestion is to refer to both names for a couple of years. For instance: B.S. degree in business administration, 2007, International College (now known as Hodges University) OR B.A. degree in business administration, 2007, Hodges University (formerly known as International College). As the public gets more accustomed to the new name, you could drop the reference to International College.
What name will diplomas have on them?
Diplomas awarded for the June 2007 commencement will read “International College” and will have the International College seal on them. Diplomas awarded for subsequent commencements will read “Hodges University” and will have the new seal on them.
Will the name change affect my degree value or the way employers regard the prestige of the University?
Enhancing awareness about the university and perception of institutional quality were among the reasons for the change. As the community becomes more familiar with the university, its distinctive offerings and new programs, and the increasing quality of educational experience we offer, the value of already-awarded degrees should increase.
Why was the name changed?
For two reasons. First, the name of the institution was changed to honor the significant gift by long-time Naples residents and community benefactors Earl and Thelma Hodges. Secondly, the name change more accurately reflects our growing student body and diverse degree programs as well as the move from college status to university status.
Are we now a member of the Florida University System?
No. Hodges University is an independent, not-forprofit institution with main campuses located in Naples and Fort Myers and additional learning sites at Cape Coral and in Charlotte, Manatee, Pasco and Hernando counties, and a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF).
When does it become effective?
The name change will officially become effective on June 1, 2007. However, there will be a six month transition period during which the use of both the institution’s old and new names is encouraged to help educate and inform our various constituencies.
What will our new Internet domain name be?
We plan to launch a new Web site at www.hodges.edu soon. Until this Web site is up and running, we will maintain our old domain name of www.internationalcollege.edu.
Will there be any other references to International College?
While the name will remain in existence during a short transition period, the goal is to completely change the institution’s signage, displays, facilities and printed materials to Hodges University. A working group will develop guiding principles and procedures.
If I graduated before the name change, what document can I get to reflect this change?
You can get a new transcript indicating the name change and date. For additional information, please contact Carol Morrison, Vice President of Student Records Management, 2655 Northbrooke Drive, Naples, FL, 34119.
How will this name change affect alumni relations?
We believe that most alumni can understand the reasons for our name change and support it as part of a long-range vision and plan to grow and reach our potential. While the name is changing, the values of the institution will remain the same. We believe that changing the name to Hodges University will only strengthen the institution’s essential character and improve its future prospects. It is our hope that new generations of students will graduate with perhaps an even deeper emotional connection to their alma mater.
Are there potential benefits associated with the new name?
Hodges University may more accurately reflect the scope and image of the university and present a more favorable first impression. The new name also better reinforces the university’s mission of offering Associate, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees as well as other programs which enhance the ability of students to achieve life or career objectives.
Was state approval necessary for the name change from college to university?
No, notification to the Florida Department of Education and SACS, our accrediting body, is all that is required. Because of the range of degree programs that we offer, we could have changed our name at any time. In fact, infrastructure was in place in 1999 to move from college to university status based on state licensing and accreditation criteria. The College has been operating as a small university since that time, establishing four Schools within the College according to programs of study. We decided to wait on the official change until the right naming opportunity arose. We further believe that we have the program depth, faculty base, student population, facilities and infrastructure to support this transition.
