English as a Second Language
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program offers English language immersion to non-native speakers of English who need to increase their English fluency in a short period of time. Hodges University’s unique ESL program is designed for academic as well as professional purposes. The program’s focus is on Academic/Standard English which enables students to improve their English skills at work, and provides them with a foundation for future college studies.
Students are initially tested and placed in levels according to their abilities. ESL courses are offered in 15 week terms at three different levels of study. The following are some areas of concentration:
- Listening and speaking
- Pronunciation/Diction
- Reading and Writing (higher levels include academic reading and essay and composition development)
- Grammar and punctuation
- Computer (Word®, PowerPoint®, and Blackboard)
The ESL program at Hodges University is a Pell Grant eligible program, so ask your Admissions Coordinator if you qualify!
For F1 Visa students and professionals who need preparation for TOEFL®, Hodges University offers College Preparatory English. This course focuses on listening comprehension, lecture note-taking, verbal presentations, and discussions. The academic component includes advanced grammar and paragraph development, resulting in preparedness for writing research papers.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! There is no more beautiful place in the United States to study English. Golden sunsets and miles of sugar sand beaches are trademarks of Southwest Florida. Southwest Florida is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States and is easily accessible by car from three major metropolitan areas (Tampa-St. Petersburg, Orlando and Miami), so employment and entrepreneurial opportunities abound.
