Thank you for taking time to learn more about our University.
At Hodges University, we believe the fundamental purpose of higher education is to improve lives… personally and professionally; and in such a way as to make a beneficial difference in the lives of others. Since our founding in 1990, the overarching mission of Hodges University has been to help students hone their abilities and improve their understanding in order to better ensure they achieve their goals… for work and for life, forever. It is this fundamental focus that has provided the very foundation on which this school has built its reputation. Flexible scheduling, online and distant learning opportunities, accelerated curriculums, class credit for life experiences, and hands-on attention from the most dedicated staff of professionals working in higher education today; these are just a few facets of the academic experience at Hodges University. Our commitment to students is also reflected in the technology incorporated into classrooms, the support services that offer tutoring and the career development center that connects students with employers. Students also benefit from having instructors that are more than mere practitioners of teaching, but professionals who have had accomplished careers in their areas of expertise. Their knowledge and passion for education culminate to produce a culture of learning that truly sets our institution, and ultimately our alumni, apart from others. Hodges University has received substantial recognition in terms of the research generated by our faculty and students, our innovative use of technology, the diversity among our students, faculty and administration, and especially our novel approach to assisting non-traditional students who are balancing the demands of working fulltime jobs and raising children, and all while fulfilling their course obligations.
Much of the university's prosperity can be attributed to the alliances we've formed on behalf of our students. Such partnerships permit students to access a number of scholarship opportunities from supporters who have grown steadily aware of the unique service Hodges University is providing to its students and the region. This recognition has helped garner unprecedented gestures of support such as that rendered by Lavern Norris Gaynor in establishing The Lavern Norris Gaynor President’s Chair at Hodges University . This gift makes a profound statement about the importance of leadership and helps to ensure that the office of the President is empowered with the necessary tools to fulfill the vision of the institution. Mrs. Gaynor remains as one of the university ’s (and this community’s) most benevolent supporters. Ten years ago, she was the first of local citizens to be honored as Hodges University’s Humanitarian of the Year. Our primary building at the Naples Campus is named after her late husband George Gaynor, a man who will be always remembered for his professional savvy, personable demeanor and practical advice about the importance of education. Our university has continued to herald our community’s humanitarian heroes while engaging in a variety of other professional initiatives designed to recognize outstanding leaders in public service and business. We are especially proud that our Kenneth Oscar Johnson School of Business is named in honor of a man that embodies entrepreneurial ingenuity, critical thinking and communication skills, leadership, and hallmarks of such ideals that our university would instill in all students.
With continued support and the consistent aim of serving students, Hodges University is moving toward the brightest of futures. That future, combined with our fixture in Florida , reinforce what has remained as a motto of this institution – Knowledge is the sun of the mind. While we hold that as true, it is equally true that wisdom (knowing what to do with what you know) has the potential to illuminate the world. I’m confident you’ll come to reflect on your decision to enroll at Hodges University as one of the wisest choices you can make for your life.
