Patrick Burns | Hodges University

Patrick Burns

Cybersecurity & Forensics

Special Recognition: Student of the Month, March 2015

Career goal:
I am currently exploring the numerous career paths available. However, I am particularly interested in becoming an information security analyst or computer forensics investigator.

Tell us a little about yourself and your life:
I am the general manager for the Petco store on Naples Boulevard. I have been with the company for nine years; previously I was with Petsmart for eight years. I was enrolled in the business administration program when I first attended Hodges (International College) in 2004. I took a break from school when I switched companies. I made the decision to return to school after I discovered that a degree is required for the position I wanted to pursue.

I am the proud father of two little girls, Star and Scrappy; they are pit bulls that were adopted from local rescue groups. I also have a freshwater fish tank.

What are your hobbies / extracurricular activities?
Between work and a full-time class schedule, I do not have much time for my hobbies of photography and travel. I am a member of the Business Club, Fisher School of Technology Society and the Naples Ambassadors. I am grateful for the friendships I have made with students and faculty through the clubs. I really enjoy participating in events that support the community and promote Hodges University. I didn’t think I would have time for clubs, but I find that I make time for them because they are a lot of fun.

What has been your favorite class at Hodges University?
So far, my favorite class is one that I am currently taking, and it is very challenging. Fundamentals of System & Network Security (CIT-4260) is the first class I have taken in the cybersecurity core, so it is my first exposure to the security tools that I will be using on the job.
