Undergraduate Certificate Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Program Delivery: On Campus
This program is offered on our Naples Campus.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program is designed to prepare students with the entry level skills required to function effectively as a nursing assistant in nursing homes, hospitals, physicians’ offices, home health, and memory care and assisted living facilities.

The Certified Nursing Assistant program is offered Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. on the Naples Campus. The 15-week program also includes two clinical rotations totaling 40 hours, which run from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for two weeks.

Instruction is provided in technical vocabulary development, communication skills, clerical practices, computation methods, basic sanitation measures and nursing procedures, and includes lectures, group discussions and clinical lab practices. Students will complete 165 hours of nursing assistant training, 75 hours of home health aide training and four hours of dementia training.

The program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing, and upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the Florida Nursing Assistant Certification Examination. In addition, students will be awarded a Home Health Aide certificate, a Dementia Care certificate, and six Hodges University associate degree credits.

Applying for Admission into the Institution

  1. If not presently enrolled at Hodges University:
    1. Follow Hodges University enrollment procedures
    2. Completed Nursing Program Application
    3. Interview with CNA program faculty
  2. If presently enrolled at Hodges University, submit the following forms to the program director, School of Allied Health:
    1. Completed Nursing Program Application
    2. Interview with CNA program faculty

Program Admission Criteria

The applicant seeking admission into the Certified Nursing Assistant Program must meet all requirements prior to enrolling in the program.

  1. The student currently enrolled at Hodges University on Academic Probation will not be considered for admission.
  2. Score above 41 on language and 15 on math portions of the HUSI exam.
  3. Complete the CNA/HHA Program Application.
  4. Interview with CNA program director and faculty member.
  5. Complete letter of understanding.
