A native of Fort Myers, Professor Andrea Fortin serves as the program chair of the Communication and Media and Communications program at Hodges University. She received her bachelor’s degrees from Florida Gulf Coast University before moving to New York City to pursue a master’s in public communication with a focus in new media studies. Her passion for communication and digital media stemmed from her time as a radio journalist, interning at WGCU Public Radio. While living in New York, she worked as a producer for the radio show Cityscape on the local NPR station, WFUV.
Her research focuses on gaming and communication, specifically about communities on social websites interested in gaming content, and she can often be found giving lectures in the community about social media and blogging.
Fortin is an adviser for the Hodges University Communication Club and a member of the Florida Communication Association and the National Communication Association.
Although communication and digital media are often embedded in our everyday lives, Fortin manages to find time to enjoy other hobbies and interests including traveling internationally and domestically, writing fiction, reading and playing games on her Xbox. She also loves dogs.
