English as a Second Language

ESL Certificate Program

The program is designed to provide English as a Second Language instruction to enhance a student’s existing knowledge, training, and job skills and further the student’s ability to pursue employment opportunities and assimilate into American culture. The focus of the program is on a) speaking and listening comprehension, b) vocabulary and reading comprehension, and c) grammar and writing skills. Computer assisted language learning enables students to reinforce their English skills.

Three 15-week courses per level
Grammar (Level 1-3)      Reading/Writing (Level 1-3)      Listening/Speaking (Level 1-3)

Admission Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Applicants must have legal status to live and/or study in the United States.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Applicants must complete an ESL Applicant Qualification form, which is used to determine eligibility to enroll in the program.
  • Financial Aid is available for Levels 1-3 for students who qualify.

College Preparatory English I & II

Two non-credit, college preparatory English courses are also offered at the advanced level. These courses are designed for international students, graduates, and professionals who need to improve their usage of Standard English for college entrance exams and/or professional licenses and certifications.

One 15-week integrated skills course per level
Reading, Writing, and Grammar (Level 4 I & II)

Intensive English Program Bridge

The program is designed to provide instruction in academic reading, writing, and grammar for non-native speakers of English who are pursuing a college degree at Hodges University. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. Please contact Admissions for more information.
